Member Posts: 21 Location: Bruehl, Germany | We are going to hospital on Monday, the operation is scheduled for Tuesday. This is going to be Julian's first expansion surgery and at the same time they are going to put in a rod in the lower neck area to encourage growth in his crooked neck, and do a plaster cast for his next brace (he wears a night brace to help straighten his neck). I am rather worried because the idea of a surgery on the neck scares me. My husband is more relaxed about it... But I have conficence in his doctor, as the first operation was very successful.

![]() Member Posts: 34 ![]() | Hi Corinna, I will be thinking of and praying for your Julian next week. We will be having a similar week--Lilly is scheduled for a CT under general anasthesia on Tuesday and spinal cord surgery on Wednesday (all in preparation for VEPTR at a later date). So glad to hear that you have confidence in his doctor, and glad you have a calm husband to help calm you. That is always a good thing! ![]() Blessings, Amy

Member Posts: 21 Location: Bruehl, Germany | Thanks for thinking of us... The surgery yesterday went very well and was much less invasive than I had feared. I had thought it comparable to the first VEPTR placement, but maybe that was much harder because then they cut his fused ribs apart. So yesterday no tubes in or out after the surgery, no intensive care unit, not even IV. He came back to the ward after the operation and was fussy, but the night was rather easy, even though he was not on a lot of pain medication. Today he already wants to get up and play trains! His doctor is very pleased with the result of the neck surgery. He hopes that with growth and continued use of a night brace, we might get the neck tilt back to only a slight asymmetry! The rib to spine rod was extended two notches - one centimeter - at the same time. Best Corinna
