Emily will be going to the OR at 1pm today - the plan is to get the picc line and take off the wound vacs and see how things are looking. He'll decide then to replace the wound vacs or close her up.

Change of plans - the surgeon wasn't available this afternoon so she went to the OR at 10:30am.

Emily got the picc line- that went well. The surgeon removed the wound vacs, took some cultures, cleaned things out and replaced the wound vacs until at least Thursday. He is hoping that things will be looking better so he can close the incisions at that time but is being very cautious which is great. I definately want to make sure that we get it all!

She is scheduled tomorrow for surgery #5 since July 12th....ugh! She has picked up another hospital bug (pseudomonus aeriginosa) since we've been here so she is now on 3 antibiotics. She still has the wound vac and we are hoping that the surgeon will be able to remove it tomorrow and close the incisions. He said that he would put in a couple of small drains for a few days. Maybe we'll get to go home by the end of the week. I think 3 weeks here will be long enough! She is feeling better and keeping busy with the activities that Child Life has going on and the things they bring her to work on. I'll update again tomorrow after surgery....we don't have a time yet but are hoping it will be in the morning.

Still sending best wishes to you guys.  Hopefully they let you out very soon.  Not good staying there and getting more infections.  Braydon had the pseudomonas in his leg infection.  Not an easy one to get rid of (not susceptible to very many antibiotics).  Good luck to you!

Oh my goodness... I'm so sorry to hear this news... However, it seems you and Emily remain in good spirits--which is wonderful--and I will continue to keep you both in my heart and thoughts.

Emily had surgery yesterday and everything went well. Took some cultures, cleaned things out again, put in 2 drainage tubes (hemovacs) and closed the incisions. The preliminary cultures today looked okay. There really isn't any drainage coming out so they are going to take the hemovacs out tomorrow. She has lab scheduled in the morning and then the antibiotics will be ordered that we will be going home with. We are supposed to be discharged on Friday which will be awesome!! Tomorrow afternoon, the company that will be providing the IV supplies, antibiotics, etc. will be coming to do some training and bring the supplies. Looks like we'll be home for my son's 16th birthday on Saturday!! Thanks for all of the well wishes and keeping Emily in your thoughts and prayers! This has been a tough one!

Emily is doing pretty good - we are so glad to be home! We are still doing two different IV antibiotics every 6 hours and the oral antibiotic twice daily. Her vancomyacin has been increased twice since we have been home but her labs yesterday were finally at an acceptable level! She is having a two night sleep study completed next week and also has follow up appointments with orthopedic, pediatric and infectious disease doctor. We took out her sutures today and she has a little redness but hopefully it isn't anything major - something we will definately be keeping an eye on though! We are still trying to figure out how to deal with two continual hours of IV antibiotics once school starts but we'll make it work.

Thanks for asking Patti - how is Andrew doing?

Janita, Glad that Emily is doing better! Andrew is doing well - we are in a watch and wait period. Andrew's growth has slowed so there is no immediate need for any expansion. We had a consult with Dr. Wattenbarger in Charlotte and he's great and wants to see Andrew again in February or so. So we will see what he thinks then. Keep us posted on Emily!
