Hi my name is Maria I am 41 years old, I had a veptr insertion surgery in October 2009 in England. The reason for my surgery was that I have a very severe scoliosis of the spine and my rib was catching onto the top of my pelvis which was causing a lot of pain plus my organs were starting to be crushed.. I was very worried about the surgery as I was the one of the first adults to have this surgery done in the UK.. However I had the surgery on the 5th October, I am not going to lie as it was very painful afterwards but I was so much straighter which was fantastic. Now nearly a year one I still have a bit of pain but my consultant thinks that it is more muscle pain than anything else as my body was curved over that the muscles have been stretched in a way that my body is not used to.. But it is onward and upwards so they say and it will just take time for things to settle down..

Thank you so much for sharing your story with us. You are the first adult I have heard of to have VEPTR implants.

I hope the pain issues subside for you. Please keep us updated on your progress!

I hope your discomfort gets better. I also have never heard of an adult having the veptr. I hope all works out well.

Hi

Thank you for your note, hopefully it will just take time to settle down, as my back was so severely curved in one direction for 40 years that it is understandable that there will be pain as it doesn't want to be straighter and my muscles are probably fighting to go back to the way they were..

How did Alex cope with the surgery? They say that children bounce back straight away from this kind of surgery and they seem not to let the pain bother them too much.. I hope he has a much improved life with the veptr now in place.

Take care

Hi

Thank you for your comment, I must admit it was a bit worrying to know that I was the first adult in the UK to have this surgery, as you just don't know how things will turn out and also the surgeons did not know how things would turn out and that was even more worrying.. But you have to put your faith in them and the surgeon that performed my operation is one of the top surgeons in the UK.

Was it your child that has had this operation done also?

Take care

Hi Maria,
My son Carter will have the veptr implants done, probably in October. He is only 17 months, so we are hoping that he recovers quickly. We are also hoping that he does not remember the first major surgery. :0)

Hi Zoe's Nana

Thank you very much for your lovely reply, I was very worried about having the surgery but I know that I had to have it, and I have a very supportive and loving boyfriend that has help me in every possible to get me through the surgery and the post surgery.. I am starting a new pain killer soon so hopefully that will be the one that helps the pain. I honestly thought and I know that this is very selfish but I thought it was hard for me to go through this and all the pain that I have been in since then, but I have read some of the replies that I have received when I put my story out there it has given me a whole new appreciation about how lucky I really am.

I hope your grand daughter is well..

Take Care

Maria

Hi Kirsty

I am so pleased that Carter will be having his surgery soon, I had my surgery in October last year, I will be thinking about you all.. Also I am sure that Carter will recover very quickly as he is very young and everyone says that children bounce back much better than adults as the don't concentrate on the pain, all they want to do is go and play with the other children.. I am also sure that he will not remember the surgery as he is young and he will forget very easy the bad stuff that has happened to him as so much happy and good stuff will overtake the bad stuff..

Stay strong and he will be fine..

Take care x

Hi Tristan's mom

My heart goes out to Tristan as he was born with so many problems, but he looks like a lovely happy little boy. I hope that his surgery goes well when he has it later this year.

Before you know it it will be all over and he will be a so much better for having it..

Take care

Maria
