Veteran Posts: 209 Location: Green Bay, Wisonsin | I know I have asked this before but I couldn't find a past posting of it. Hope still is not sitting up on her own or walking. She has figured out how to crawl on her back, even with her cast on her leg. How long did it talk for any one's child to sit up on their own and walk. She can role to the left side and then on the right side, but can not do a full roll. She does have therapy PT and OT and speech once a week. Is there anymore we can do?? The Veptr device has some what straightened her but not change is walking or sitting up.....I need some encouragement and positve feed back, she is going to be 2 on 11/24 and it breaks my heart the she can't do these two things. Expert Posts: 3970 Location: Plymouth, Pennsylvania | SEPHANIE, ZOE WAS JUST 2 1/2 WHEN SHE HAD HER IMPLANTS... SHE WAS WALKING BEFORE THE SURGERY, BUT AFTER SURGERY IT TOOK A LONG TIME FOR HER TO BOUNCE BACK...AND THE ONE THING SHE DID NOT WANT TO DO WAS PUT WEIGHT ON HER LEGS... ZOE WAS TINY FOR HER AGE, AND ONE OF THE THINGS SHE GOT ALOT OF USE OF WAS HER BABY WALKER...I KNOW ALOT OF PEOPLE DO NOT AGREE WITH THEM, BUT I AM A GREAT FAN OF THEM... AFTER ZOES SURGERY, I BROUGHT IT OUT OF STORAGE, AND PLACED ZOE IN IT...SHE JUST LOVED IT...IT SURROUNDED HER, AND MADE HER FEEL SAFE, HELPED HER FEEL COMFORTABLE IN A SITTING POSITION, AND THEN LITTLE BY LITTLE SHE WOULD START TO ONCE AGAIN PUT WEIGHT ON HER FEET...IT WORKED AMAZINGLY AND I WOULD RECOMMEND IT UNDER SUPERVISION OF COURSE...I EVEN USED IT ONCE OF TWICE THEN AGAIN AFTER HER EXPANSIONS... I AM ALSO A FIRM SUPPORTER OF THERAPY...I HAVE BEEN IN THE COMPANY OF THERAPIST FOR THE PAST 28 YEARS...FIRST WITH ARLENE, FROM THE AGE OF 11 MONTHS, AND THEN AGAIN WITH ZOE... THEY WERE NOT ONLY A BENIFIT PHYSICALLY TO THEM, BUT MENTALLY AND EDUCATIONALLY TO ME AS WELL... STEPHANIE, DO YOU HAVE HOPE IN A PROGRAM CALLED "EARLY INTERVENTION"... THIS IS SOMETHING FROM OUR STATE, AND KNOW OTHER STATES HAVE IT AS WELL, WHERE THERAPIST COME TO THE HOME, AND A PROGRAM, ESPECIALLY SUITED TO THE CHILDS NEEDS ARE PLANNED, AND THEY COME TO YOUR HOME UP TO AGE THREE TO PROVIDE THIS... IT WAS WONDERFUL FOR ZOE, AND MANY, MANY OTHER CHILDREN.... IF YOU NEED ANY HELP SETTING THINGS UP, TALK WITH YOU DOCTORS, AND I AM SURE SOME OF US HERE CAN HELP GET YOU INFORMATION.... YOU HANG IN THERE...HOPE HAS BEEN THRU A TREMENDOUS TIME, AND YOU AS WELL...BUT SHE IS STRONG TO HAVE BATTLED THUS FAR WHAT SHE HAS, AND SHE WILL CONTINUE TO DO SO... KEEP THE FAITH, KEEP COMING AND ASKING QUESTIONS... AND GOD BLESS... Edited by Zoes Nana 2006-10-05 7:46 AM

Veteran Posts: 283 Location: St. Louis, MO | Hi Stephanie These things will come in time. Our kids are not on the same developmental time table as most other kids. Eli used a walker (no one was sure she would ever walk) it really helped her so much. As for sitting up, we used a special chair that was made out of wood and had a tray in the front. We had to use a strap to keep her body upright. Those boppy pillows helped too. Eli never crawled. She would scoot on her bottom. They used a roller for her to try to do this on her tummy. Good idea for some kids, but Eli couldn't breath because of the chest issues. I know it's hard when you see other kids doing these things, but it's going to take longer for her. Just keep doing what your doing. Eli was 2 1/2 before she started walking or making noises. Keep your head up and keep fighting

Expert Posts: 3243 Location: Utah | Big hugs to you Stephanie. Hope has been through more medical crap in her little life than any hundred people should have to go through. Be patient. She will be fine. She's writing her own owner's manual - Hope's Life! As long as she's progressing and not regressing, she's doing well. I know its hard to be patient. What do the PT/OT etc specialists say about her development? I don't have any specific suggestions other than to keep up the good work. Keep doing what you're doing, asking questions, researching, finding out what's best for Hope. You're doing great.

Veteran Posts: 209 Location: Green Bay, Wisonsin | Update on Hope, she started doing a complete role. I worked with her last night and discovered she could role both directions, of course it looks pretty strange. Once is discovers how to do something so only gets better at it. I went to tell my husband last night and he wasn't suprised at all. He said 'Didn't I tell you that already?' I told me 'NO!!!!' He told me that he remembers telling me, but I don't. We laughed about it afterwards, because during the 2 weeks she has been doing this I never saw her do it once!! Stephanie

Member Posts: 16 | I'm so happy for little Hope. I'm glad you posted this becuase our daughter Samone just turned two in Nov. and she is not walking but sitting up. We figured she would never crawl but God I can't wait until the day she starts walking. I know how you feel when other kids are walking that are younger than your child and just want with all your heart to see them accomplish their own big steps. Shay Mom to Jasheem 8 and Shayla 4 both okay and mom to my lovely Samone 2- PRS, G-tube at 4 weeks, ear tubes at 1 and first botux injections for secretions, nissen down in Aug, restrictive lung problems, congetial scolosis and kyphosis 45 degree curve, currently in hospial for 40 days recovering from some type of pneumonia.
