Moises has had his last surgery the third week of november, and so far so good, but i have been noticing him itching alot at the wound site (no marks yet, i keep his nails short), we see the ortho tomorrow, but as you may know that this is his first case, so he doesn't really know the answers to some of our questions. I guess in short I am asking if this is o.k.? does it mean it is healing? the upper incision around his shoulder blade if you run your finger down it, you can still feel the stiches but the bottom two are smooth and pink it almost like a bright pink? i also wonder if he is just itching the bottom becasue he can't reach the top, or is the another infection about to show up? Please advise.

thanks,
trisha

ZOE JUST HAD HER 18TH SURGERY, AND THE ITCHING FROM THE BANDAGES, NOT MATTER WHAT THEY
USE IS ALWAYS VERY ANOYING FOR HER....ONCE ALL THE BANDAGES COME OFF, THINGS BECOME OK...
WE JUST MAKE ZOE VERY AWARE SHE MUSN'T TOUCH THE INCISION ITSELF...
GOD BLESS, I KNOW THIS ITCHING IS TERRIBLE FOR THEM...

Hi Trish! So glad to know Moises is doing well. Elizabeth had itching too even when her bandages came off. And now that it's winter and with heat drying out skin, lower humidity etc. during winter months, that may be a factor too. For Elizabeth I use Aveeno baby lotion, unscented. Ask the doc if it's ok to put lotion on or near his incision site since it's been 2 months since surgery.

Hi Trisha,

Ditto what the others said. Itching is common! Itching mostly means the skin is healing. I use very mild moisturizing cream on Braydon's back (WalMart brand of Oil of Olay). Ask the doc if you can help relieve the itching with some mild lotion or Vitamin E gel or something. I'm sure he's just fine.

Dr. Smith told us to use Palmer's cocoa butter formula for dry, itchy skin. They have the lotion and the spray. The spay also helps with removing the sterile strips/tape. We really like it, and it does seem to help some. To help find the bottle it has the sillouette of a pregnant woman on it. The oil is yellow and the lotion is in a white bottle.

We were also told to put a good lotion with Vit. E and fragrence free on Emily's back and to apply it directly on the incision site and steri-strips. Emily's back gets more irritated from the steri-strips than anything so the lotion definately helps.

WE NEVER TOUCH THE INCISION WITH
ANYTHING UNTIL THE LAST STRIP FALLS...
(SOME COME OFF WITH A LITTLE HELP THOUGH..LOL)
AND THEN IT IS ONLY WASHED WITH JOHNSONS
BABY SHAMPOO...
WHILE THE STRIP ARE ON WE ONLY WASH AROUND IT...

GOD BLESS...

GOOD DEAL!

What else did they have to say? Trish had pumped him up for seeing Moises running around when we were there.
