Veteran Posts: 250 Location: Broken Arrow, Oklahoma | Kaedy has stayed on the home vent 24 hours!!!! YIPPEEE!!!! She even awoke yesterday and they didn't re-sedate her because she was happy and smiling and playing, instead of fussing, like in the other trials. What a wonderful mother's day present for me!!!! Now to get her home!!! Blessings, Kahri

Stress, happiness, and just enjoying your child home takes up all of your time. Plus i was a nut, i didn't sleep the first month. i was a constant fixture in his face making sure nothing happened. I was a crazy women with a suction machine, poor child i suctioned him way more than needed. OHHh the good ol days.

Veteran Posts: 250 Location: Broken Arrow, Oklahoma | Okay, I am SOOOOO sorry I haven't written sooner. I feel awful...you are all so sweet checking up on me. Thank you Melanie, especially, for your sweet emails..... no, unfortunately, Kaedy is not home yet. I do have good news though - she has stayed on her home vent since that last message I wrote. She is now considered stable. Big changes have happened - she had her first ride in a stroller and has been out of her room a few times now! She still hasn't been outside (yet) but hopefully we will take her this week. She has also started eating baby food. (through her mouth) We had the barium swallow test and she passed with flying colors so we have officially started feeding her cereal and applesauce. She is doing really well with them. All in all she is doing TERRIFIC!!!! She had an MRI done on Wednesday of her spinal cord and chest wall. They were going to overnight the results to Dr. Campbell and we were hoping to hear yesterday or this coming Monday on when they want to take her. They have officially decided to have the initial consult and surgery at the same time. Our doctor has told us to be ready to go at any time. I will write more again soon and get caught up. I have to get off the computer now, our power is flickering and we have severe weather. Hubby wants computer off and safe. LOL Thank you all so much for thinking of us and being so sweet. I am sorry that I haven't checked in sooner. Many blessings, Kahri

It's also great that you have been able to be a little more mobile with her ~ stroller rides, etc. Hopefully you'll hear from Dr. Campbell soon!! Do you have nursing set up yet for when she comes home? Janita

Regular Posts: 68 Location: Madera, CA | Hi Kahri, Way to go Kaedy, i am so happy to hear you are doing so well on your home vent. Boy, i really thought you all were home already. Isn't it so exciting that first stroller ride, even if it is in the hospital corridors. I so remember it very clearly. It seemed like i would never get the hang of putting all the equipment in the car/ or the stroller. I can now do it in five minutes, and not forget anything. LOL So glad to hear all the great big strides that have been taken and eating baby food, that is a huge accomplishment. After about two weeks of having the trach, Jacob decided he was not going to eat any longer by mouth. He is stubborn like that. But he is three now and has eaten everything by mouth for more than two years now. Good luck with the consult with Dr. Campbell and you all are definetly in my prayers If you ever need to chat just let me know, hugs, kim

Kahri, I'm so glad that your daughter is doing better. Your family is in our thoughts and prayers. Kaedy sounds like she is really making some progress San Antonio is awsome and I hope that Dr. Campbell and Smith can work their magic on your daughter like they did mine. One day at a time though.
