Dear Friends,
I just recently noticed, someone mentioned, Titanium Ribs,
and setting off the alarms at Airports...
I was curious, If our kids are not setting off the alarms, because
of the Medal Being Titanium, can weapons be made of this titanium, and
(GODS FORBID!!!)and get thru these check points....
God!!! That scars me to death....
I must admitt I don't know much about these type of things, but I would
hope (And Pray) that they could detect ALL medals, that would pass through...
Our Country's most recent relavation, and the needed rise in the
Terror Alert, certainly, makes it apparent, that there are still, many
that (Frightenly) walk amongst us, that still, wish us Americans Great Harm....
Sorry to be off subject, But I think we all fight, way to hard to give
ours kids a Good and Healthy Life, and God himself knows the Battles
our Children have gone through and will go through, just to stay alive,
from Bodies, "damaged in Shipping" and to even think that some one
would intend to delibertly cause harm, just makes my skin crawl....
Sorry for Rambling....
Sincerely,
Johanna

Yes, Johanna... titanium will not set off the metal detectors.  At the airports, they *look* through the baggage as well as have it go through the detectors to find anything that appears suspicious.  It is not a fool-proof method, but its the only one we have.  Our kids and their 100% titanium devices will not set off the metal detectors.

What a strange thing that you should mention this.  Natalia and I were JUST talking about this same subject about two hours ago!  Well, we were talking about the kids not setting anything off at the airport.  Johanna, I never really thought about what you are saying but it sure is a scary thought isn' t it?

when Madda had her first surgery I was not sure if she would set of metal detectors or not so we had the Dr write a note telling of her.... It caused more trouble than it was worth becuase she never set the alarms off but it took and extra 30 min to explain why she did not infact set the alarms off... silly looking back.

Johanna,
It was Sarah that set the detectors off. We have to carry a letter saying sarah has titanium implanted in her.

Titanium is not likely to set off a metal detector, because it is not magnetic, and it has a high electrical resistivity (twice that of lead!). This is the principal reason why it is safe to go into an MRI even with titanium implants, and it's one of the reasons titanium is so popular in orthapedic instrumentation.

There are titanium knives that can be smuggled past airport detectors, but then again, there are also simple plastic knives that do the same job for a lot cheaper. It's nothing new to be concerned about.

Uh oh, the feds are knocking at the door.

Owen has sternum wires and metal plates and screws in his head (from his cranial surgery) and he doesn't set off the alarms.

Kim, maybe it wasn't Sarah's "ribs" that set it off...I once set the alarm off and was practically wearing nothing (LOL a sundress, undergarments and sandals). It turned out that my sandals had a metal plate on the sole.
